I bought Insurgency a few days ago, I'm not entirely sure if my current potato will run it though, I've just sort of been buying games I want to play on sales in preparation for my new rig. I went from like 12 games to around 130 or something.

Xenonauts is hard as fuck.
Well my potato can run it, so yours probably can

Am I irrational in my dislike of roguelikes that use both keyboard and mouse, or do most people not care/like the mouse?

For example, in a game where you can shoot something - what's better, having it done via clicking on the target, or selecting it with keys?
Gone. Cheers guys.

1. Use smoke. If you're playing on easy, use stun gas for everything as it's horribly OP. Even at normal it's pretty potent.

2. You can stun gas your own guys if they're about to die.

3. Get Wolf armour ASAP. If you take the right weapons along, you don't need great guns till the midgame.

4. Start around Egypt, then the US, then east asia. You don't need to put guys in each base, just lots of planes.

5. X:CE is harder in some ways, but much more fair. Also has a better UI.

6. Get the breach and clear mod (I think that's what it's called). Whole new game in some ways with that.

7. Remember that shooting around corners is... fiddly. It will usually favor the AI. If you have X:CE you can see whether the corner actually provides cover or not. I can't remember if that's in vanilla.

8. If you're having trouble with certain enemies, and haven't gotten the tech to completely avoid them yet, remember that tanks can't turn into zombies or be mind controlled.

9. Get used to taking a shot then running away, rather than plugging away with all your AP, unless you KNOW you're gonna kill the target. On higher difficulties, being in LOS will invariably get you instakilled.

Dunno if that helps, but Xenonauts is one of the most played games I have. Lots of fun.
Gone. Cheers guys.

I don't really care, since I'm never gonna use the mouse in a rougelike. o3o

...for targeting? Maybe. Or I could, you know, use the keyboard like a non-heretic. :V

Roguelikes feel much better when they're keyboard only, it's nice to have the mouse option there though.

I am playing CE, I've seen nothing but fucking Sebillians so far, like from the very first UFO. Smoke is absolutely useless against Sebs and stun gas takes a little while to get to. The little Fighters zipping around everywhere are cunts too, fighter was the first goddamn UFO I saw.

The bad news is that sebillians are by far the easiest thing you're going to fight. The good news is that this will become more apparent as you gun up a bit.

If you're on easy, and pile on the gas (it does compound the effects to a degree - you can see this visually), you should reliably knock them out in a single turn. This goes for anything without a helmet you'll see early on. This works less well on normal and above.

There's a couple mods that make it so your foxtrots can do ok vs. fighters if you're manually controlling them (the one I'm thinking of lets you swap the torps for missiles), but otherwise, Condors all the way. They should be able to 1 vs 1 them ok until heavy fighters show up. If we're talking the smallish 2000 speed scouts (not actual fighters) the the reverse should be true. It's been a while since I played below veteran, but IIRC keeping the skys clear isn't too bad for the first couples months since you can take most things down with only two planes.

I usually just skip the corsair, TBH, because the right mix of foxtrots and condors should be able to take on anything even into the later game. Once you get the marauders, and enough of them, you start to feel kinda bad for the aliens.

Other bit of advice I'd maybe have is ignore everything except bravery and reaction when recruiting. The rest of the skills are very easy to train up, but bravery is hard (if you aren't feeling gamey, anyway), and I don't know of a reliable way to level reaction.
Gone. Cheers guys.

So, I had a rough Doom map idea. Series of islands linked by teleporters, some of which are locked and need to be snuck into from the correct island to open up.

Pbbbt. I think I have CS:GO, but don't really bother with it. I also have CS:S and only have it installed for Garry's Mod. :V

I found a mod for oblivion that adds ship wrecks filled with loot. I guess it depends on one of the overhaul mods for it's unique loots. It's pretty nice, but below a certain depth, the LOD for the lake/ocean floor doesn't vanish when you get close to it. Some of the wrecks are hard to find as a result. Gives me an idea though.

That introduction to shivering isles to. Where you sit in a room with Haskill and then the room turns into butterflies and flies away. If I saw that shit, I wouldn't go insane. I'd fucking smile. Can you imagine seeing shit like that irl? Fucking magical.

Hmm. I oughta look into mods for Oblivion. Like maybe one that makes leveling less bork.

Also, all the fuckloads of random shit make me wish I could craft basic stuff using it. :V
