[SET SAIL!] Sunken Harbors
« on: March 07, 2015, 01:35:26 am »
[WELCOME TO VINBRIGHT]

The boat was cradled by the water between the docks in port. Slowly the waves lapped against the ship spitting out the smells of salt and the tinge of sulfur. The gas lights from Vinbright illuminated all of the crew's face as they slowly reached an empty spot between massive and tiny boats packed with either artillery, people, or precious cargo. Jolie flicked off the Spotlight up front and slowed the boat to a crawl until it was right next to the dock. Everyone began to tie the ship together over the sound of engines spitting and the drunken laughs and hollers from down the docks and into the streets.

Jolie complacently moved away from the steering wheel and up the ladder. Once next to the cannon, she looked to all of the crew below taking things off the deck.

"Listen up. I want you all to take the cargo to our client, Monsieur Devour. His shop is on the..." Jolie positioned herself to see and put out both arms. Then dropped the other one and turned back around, pointing to her right. "East. It's a bit grungy ova' there, but you wimpy lot can handle it." She smiled playfully to the crew and winked at her First Mate, Thomas. "His shop is around there somewhere on Bixon Street. I can't remember the name, it's something french though so look for a squiggly line over a word or something." Jolie shrugged. "An after that, I want the Thomas to lead you all to get another job. Go talk to some stores if you're feeling like bringing some cargo to transport, or seek the taverns for some bounties." Jolie had unholstered her sword, long and dyed red, at some point in her conversation. She leaned up against the bars around the Canon and poked at the underside of her hat right in front of her face. "If you come into trouble, you know what to do." Jolie smiled again, like a puppeteer picking up the corners of her mouth.

(Time to disrespect females and acquire currency)

"Damn it" Donovan said to himself as he walked off. "I'm a doctor, not a cargo monkey."
He grabbed the smallest of the various packages, and yells "Hey Blackjack, I didn't get a chance to talk to ya this morning, want to carry these over with me?" he motioned to the larger boxes as he said this.

Blackjack stood on the dock with a crate in her hand, waiting for the captain to stop droning on. She already knew exactly what they were going to do once they got to town. She kept her face blank, keeping herself from scowling as she shifted the box around in her grip. As soon as the captain finished, she started towards Bixon street with a glance at Donovan. "You can stitch a man back together, I'm sure you can carry a bigger box, Doc," she said with a smirk before focusing back ahead of her.

"Something about checking out the taverns after? Well, Cap, you've piqued my interest." Zar states, laughing a little under his breath as he lifts one of the heavier boxes in the air. Blackjack and the Doc were already on their way, so he made an effort to catch up with the two. "Alright, alright! Let's get these damn boxes to the French one, I'm ready for the waters, I am!" He laughs again, a little louder.

It's another day down in the Sunken Harbors.

The boxes that are to be towed to Monsieur Devour are heavy and not at all easily handled. The green, fungi-wood boxes are hard to get any grip on, but as sailors of the Black Sea, they'll have to make do with it. As the crew loaded out the many boxes, packing them onto small delivery carts, their shadows played on the backdrop of the city. The green hues of the glowing civilization this far beneath the Earth beamed hope and light into one's soul. At first sight, anyways. Living in a town like this could prove to be just as daunting and melancholy as the seas themselves. At the very peak of the city line, there was a rather taller, wider building that opened up like a concave semi-circle. This was the Federation Building.

The Federation Building was infamous, yet famous. Infamous for being hard to get into, but famous for the riches that were promised to any sea-farers that could handle their brutal tasks. Each crew member could think of at least one story about the place. They'd send sailors out to the darkest depths to chart what was still unknown, or they'd send ships as spies to gain information on the rivaling gangs and pirates of the Black Sea. Of course, there was no way the crew of Delphino Plaza would be seeing the inside of that building anytime soon. Not with their non-existent reputation.

"The medical textbooks werent THAT heavy" Donovan replied, continuing to carry the box he had in his hands. "besides, couldnt we just get some street urchins to carry them for us?" Donovan looks around, sees a surprising lack of urchins in the surrounding area. "Well, if we can find one anyway."

[[Crap didn't know we already started this.]]

Thomas was already behind the group, holding the moldy and sea fungus ridden boxes. Trying his best to both keep a firm grip on the box, and to not touch any of the icky moss that plagued the outer-shell of the crate. He dropped the final crate into one of many carts they'd be pushing, grabbing his chest and taking a few deep breaths; 'I'm really too old for this', he thought as he straightened up and started pushing one of the carts. He knew the Captain doesn't want him doing the manual labor, but at the same time he wants to feel as useful as he did back in his prime; so him and Jolie currently have a mutual agreement on this, but one more sprained muscle or busted up hip, and he'll be pushed into shuffling papers and keeping count on the stock... as well as being the Captain's main adviser.

He looked at the sea spray encrusted windows, faint shadows flickering in and out of existence behind the thick green glass that once appeared yellow. It reminded him of his old home when he was a lad, the times he'd come from school to find that it'd be more Fish Broth stew mixed with the finest selection of trout and bottom feeding fish; with their bones sticking out of the textured chunks of meat that'd float in the stew like islands. He saw the store up ahead, coming into view slowly.

He began to feel his "sweet tooth" acting up the closer he was.

[[Hella long roadtrip through the deepest of souths has left me without internet for a while.]]

Allan dusts his hands, shaking off a fine spray of fungiwood spores. He coughs a little when he inhales the cloud, and through the fit he mutters "E-uh-guh, ah can't stand luggin' these damn boxes around." He gets behind another one of the cargo carts, and starts pulling it onto the ship. "Gonna cough a lung up, haulin' carga' like this."

As he does so, he looks out in the direction the captain pointed. The blackness of the sea looks back at him. He quiets down, and pulls the cart in silence.

The streets were mostly empty in the eastern side of Vinbright. Though night and day are hard to differentiate, clocks were still functional this far down. The time was 12:45 PM, or as a hanging clock overhead told the crew, and so it came as no surprise that no one was out and about in the eastern side. It was dangerous to be out in the streets all alone, safety at night was guaranteed in Vinbright Plaza or around that immediate area. Cops patrolled over there, here, they didn't bother.

The crew walked deeper into the east, building got taller and closer together, what would normally appear as alleys and side streets became the roads which the five people tread. The area smelled of rotting wood and dust as the claustrophobic space became even tighter, and the wagon hard to maneuver around. The wagon bumped on the rocky side streets, making a droning thump with each step taking. It was like a drum beating to war as the gang walked the lonesome streets. Occasionally a window light high above would flash on and the silhouette of a curious human would peek out at the crew. Other times, lights would go out and shudders would close.

At the corner of a four way intersection, there was a large, wooden post with a few arrows pointing different directions.

< LEFT TO JERARD

> RIGHT TO BIXON

^ STRAIGHT TO MONICAR

V DOWN TO VENNUS

As the crew stopped for a quick rest, a light hanging over a building flickered with a buzz, and there was a sound of scuffling and movement somewhere. It sounded to the left and down the street.

Being the courageous First Mate he is, "Aye, Blackjack. Do ye' mind coming with me down to investigate the noise?" He asked one of his colleges to accompany him to go find out what horror is scratching!

"Eh? Probably just some street rat. If you two wanna go look, I'll go too, but it's a waste 'o time." Zar scoffs, gesturing over in the general direction of the noise. He'd grown up around here, not much that could scare him anymore.

Allan brings his cart to a stop and looks down the alley. He then dusts off his shirt even more fungiwood dust, and says "I wudn't. We're sailors, not snoopers. Bes' gettin' to deliverin' these boxes than runnin' off to some fuck-off alley at this time o' day."

Blackjack glanced towards the alley, then Thomas, then cart. "Be right back," she said, stepping away from the cart and into the alley with purpose, rolling up her sleeves. If something was going on back here, she'd definitely be the one to stop it, she thought, cracking her knuckles..

Zar's hand lightly clasped to the handle of his knife, ready to unsheathe it. Blackjack's attitude about this was getting him worried, as were the memories of all the muggings Zar himself had carried out around here. "Well Doc, thanks for volunteering, eh?" He jeered, no small amount of sarcasm in his voice, as he went to trail behind Blackjack and make sure nothing was afoot.
