Land of Friyar [IC]
« on: September 02, 2015, 05:10:04 pm »
It took much sailing, so much sailing across that surface of blue which forever seemed to lap at your boats. You had sailed and sailed, sacrifices had been made, most had left behind family who had been stricken with the Plague. It had been a horrible sickness, and in such a short time it had ravaged empires and caused so much loss of life.

And so the Races had sailed, gathering together their boats and setting off for what was hoped to be a blessing, or perhaps some form of new life. When the Descendants of Eternity had finally reached the new land, they had scoured over the coasts, each one selecting and assigning land as according to their kind.

So, as it came in all Epics, a new era began. Whether it was to an era of savagery and murder, leading to the countless loss of life that the Plague had done, or whether it would become an era filled with prosperity and goodness was going to be determined by the actions of these Descendant races.

So it begins.

[Remember, be specific, we don't want any 'My people make houses.' posts. Also, don't do OP things, and if you have any question about Lore, shoot me a message. Beyond that, take a looksy doodle at my poll.]

[Edit: It's been brought up that I didn't tell you guys where you landed or what the area looks like. This is for the same reason that I didn't give you people culture. I want you to be the deciders of your own Races destinies so to say, and since you are the first people being in that area, I'm letting you decide what the bloody terrain is, and what it looks like. Once someone has set an area as looking like something, then it will always look that way, but for now, it's up to you to shape the world. I figure this lets you have a bit more creative freedom then simply restricting you to 'You're in a desert.' or 'You have trees.']

The trolls begin gathering materials, wood, stone, thatch, and tar. They use these materials to make houses, using the tar to make the thatch adhere to wooden planks that were erected to make the walls, and then two additional planks that were used to make slanted roofs.
They also use the stones and sticks to make hunting tools and proceed to begin gathering food using these tools. They also begin gathering local vegetables and using whatever seeds they find to begin making fields to grow crops.
(hoping this is okay)

Parsius IV Gazed out across the landing site. It had been a long way from Hjemmesiden, with many dangers and lost ships. He reflected on those he had to leave behind. Those who had ignored his warnings of the Plague. The landing Site was very much different from Hjemmesiden, cold and bleak, the very hills seeming tired. Not at all like the lush forests and lively lakes back in Hjemmesiden.
He counted the Ships that had made the journey. Only 5 remained, the rest destroyed, lost, or settled elsewhere. He set his people to work gathering what materials they could, and scuttling the ships for materials.
Thanks Peri for making me question muh sexualities once again.

The elves come out of their ships, and started getting used to the land.
It is filled with meadows and trees, but it has many high hills and some animals.
Most of the stronger elfs start chopping the wood with improvisised axes, made from the wood from boats, and the weaker elfs start to make beds from the grass. Then, after the chopping of wood, the elfs make firstly make spears to hunt the horses and chickens, which are from the animals, which are mostly deers, pigs, chickens, and horses, and a little cows. Then they make pickaxes from the wood and start mining for the stone. They make bows from horses (I forgot the word) and arrows from wood and stone. Then, the stone is used to make better tools.
After all that job is done, they make farms with cows and pigs, and then, finally, they start making houses, high 4 meters, and the walls are made from a mixture of wood and stone.(That mixture is created with a powerful machine, called the Stone Breaker ,2 bigger stones from the top and bottom, and the one on top is pushed up with ropes, and then fastly stopped being held by elfs and at that time,a rock is placed between the stones and it is being broken till it's pieces. Then, its being stocked, using honey, from bees, with the wood)and have nothing for windows.
[I hope it's good]

Upon landing, the Avians immediately start dismantling the ships, using the sails as makeshift 'stretchers' for the wood and metal brackets and heading towards the island's mountain.   When they arrive at the base of the mountain, they begin to set up a base camp, using the sails to make tents and beginning construction of some treetop shelters, using up the majority of the wood and brackets in the process, and using up the rest to create tools.
After the constructions are mostly done, some of the Avians split off into a resource gathering group and a construction group.   The resource gatherers split off into miners and woodsmen, with the miners, well, starting to attempt to mine out stone, and the lumberjacks creating a path back to the beach, bringing back tree trunks and such for the construction team.

Man I'm bad at doing this.

The Spriggans pull their ships ashore, and inject their ships with a liquid. The ships soon shrink into fist-sized seeds. They collect them, and journey to the eastern side of the island. When there, they plant the fist-sized seeds, and inject them with another liquid to grow homes and basic workshops. (Alchemy lab, barracks and weapon manufactory, farm.)
They then inspect the surroundings of the location, looking for wild fruit trees/plants to obtain cuttings from, to grow.
After the alchemy manufactory is done, start experimenting with local herbs and plants to create potions or poisons.
After the weapon manufactory is done, they start knapping some stone arrowheads, and start growing bows out of small seeds.

The ice still clung to the beards of the male humans as their ships landed on the sands of the foreign shore. This place would be where humanity begins anew and where the new era of the Vaasaka Empire. The surrounding landing area's forestry was very light and building would be out of the question right now so building a simple palisade would be difficult. Out of desperation, the humans would use their pick-axes and begin to dig downwards and begin to tunnel out a stairway 20 feet down. They would make sure to do this away from the beach to make sure the water didn't leak in.

Other humans would work on bringing the ships further inland so they wouldn't float away as the tides would come in.
There is probably no more terrible instance of enlightenment than the one in which you discover your father is a man — with human flesh.

Trolls-
The Trolls are a powerful race, and upon their landfall into this new continent, they set about quickly to ready themselves for the trials ahead. They do this by starting a gathering of materiel. Wood, stone, and thatch are easy enough finds, though they require slightly larger homes because of their size. The gathering of Tar proves to be difficult at first, however a small patch of black and gooey liquid is soon found nearby, surrounded by dead and dying plants.

It is found that this liquid is quite sticky, and it forms an excellent glue for the further constructions. They begin a rapid construction of homes, a true testament to their strength as it takes half as many Trolls as other races to do heavy lifting such as heaving up walls. Their roofing is a bit rougher, due to their large and clumsy fingers, but it seems sufficient in warding away the elements.

The construction of tools amongst the Trolls is limited slightly as many of them do not truly understand such undertakings, especially after losing many of the better crafttrolls during the Plague. They set out constructing several clubs and a few basic spears however.

The animals found about the Troll lands seem to match their inhabitants, they are massive beings, the stags size up to the size of men and weigh as much as twice that of a normal deer. The Trolls are quick to down such beings with their martial prowess, and soon trophies are being distributed amongst the colony in the form of antlers and hides. The Trolls are inquisitive of their other natural surroundings as well, however, their dull curiosity means that discovering newer plants sometimes involves tasting them. It is found that a nearby red and spotted berry is highly poisonous after a Troll ingests a single one, and promptly falls dead.

A hard pear like fruit is also found, it seems to retain thistles about it and is quite hard to grasp or hold due to this. To be cooked, it is required to be bashed with a hard instrument, and then when it is in many pieces it may be placed upon a fire and cooked.  [Feel free to name these plants and animals.]

--------------------------------------------
Catarra-
This new world brings about a change which is unheard of for your people. Used to their lush and thriving jungles, they find themselves trapped in a sort of arctic nightmare. Thankfully, their natural fur coats keep many of them from freezing to death as well as the shelter of the boats, but it becomes quickly obvious that the local terrain is harsh and life, therefore must be harsher. Many bare looking trees dot the landscape, and the gathering of wood from them is easy, however several seem to be too weak to truly use as planks, and are instead converted into firewood. Stone deposits are found throughout the hills, it is easy to take the rocks and roll them to the ships for use.

The ships are rapidly scuttled for their precious materials such as Wood and Cloth. They take these materials and begin to form a large temporary tent camp until further orders are given to them on where to begin building more permanent structures. Many of the Catarra complain at night of strange noises far off in the deathly briars that surround the woods.

--------------------------------------
Elves-
The Elves upon first glance seem to have some of the closest terrain to a true paradise and they rejoice in their choice of land. The area is abundant in plant and animal life, however, it is very abundant in plant and animal life. The Elves struggle to clear paths through the woods to grab wood and stone. The animals are usually quite healthy and quick, and not terribly easy to down, however the quick production of bows from the remains of former kills make such tasks much simpler.

They begin to rapidly capture wild hogs and cattle, forcing the unruly and tough beasts into pastures where they are held with moderate difficulty. Due to the Elves being Elves however, the animals are more rapidly broken of some of their harsher wild features than would be possible through other races. They go about creating a form of wood and stone mixture, which although useful in terms of mixing production, is also rather difficult to use as a true mixture as it is slightly uneven and very roughly held together.

Elves report sightings of very large beings throughout the woods, as far as sources can tell, they are scaly and possibly reptilian. They also appear to go about on four legs.

----------------------------------------
Avians-
Avians, being the bird people they are, are quite quick in going to a higher ground. In this case, a mountain. They dismantle their ships rapidly, and through a series of highly coordinated flying and quite a lot of hard trudging, move the materials up to the mountain, albeit, it is quite a slow process.

It is much quicker for the Avians to set up some tent shelters using pieces of the ships, and it is not horribly difficult for them to set up basic treehouses along many of the higher up trees. The Avians then split off into two groups of miners and woodcutters. The woodcutters have a very slow time of clearing the first few trees, which seem to stretch high up into the sky, though, they gradually begin to create a path down in the general direction of the beach.

The miners have a much easier time of things, and discover several caves and caverns littering the mountain. Inside of these they find ample deposits of easily mined or already broken off stone pieces which are quickly transported back to the colony. It is of note however, that a certain pair of miners seem to disappear with no trace found of them.

---------------------------------------
Spriggans-
The short and strange Spriggan boats continue to live up to their names when, through a series of strange alchemical reactions caused by a liquid which was apparently packed with the Spriggans, the boats are converted out of being boats and are instead warped and biologically shaped into workshops and structures. The liquid runs out rather rapidly as more structures are created, but it seems to have served it's purpose in giving the short Spriggans the jumpstart they need to begin life in a new world.

The Spriggans however seem to be quite the masters of biological shaping, and soon begin growing plants which they turn into basic bows. Arrowheads are carved out of stone with relative ease, and the bows are quickly produced. They seem to be weaker structurally than the average wooden bow, but they take much less time to produce, which may have been the Spriggan plan all along. They begin taking of various herbs and plantlife that they discover around them. One plant; a bright orange and elongated plant similar to a cucumber, when ingested, seems to blind the user in one eye, while improving the vision of the other eye exponentially. The effects last for only a couple of hours while the thing is being digested.

The Spriggans take notice of a local nearby pit filled to the brim with deadly vipers, serpents, and snakes of every kind. They seem to writhe about in the hole as though it is a home for all of them, though the obvious killing and fighting amongst some of the snakes shows that they are most definitely not actually an intelligent being.

-------------------------------
Humans-
Humans begin the new era of their Vaasaka Empire upon a seemingly chilly and lightly forested area. Humans, having no true natural abilities like many of the other races, act in a sort of desperation, united by their need for survival and their intense desire for it, potentially a feeling greater in humanity than in any other Descendant. They work quickly through this need to live, digging away at dirt and stone with a fierceness about their motions.

In just a short while, they have moved away the dirt and stone, piling it up just outside of their stairway. It is far enough up the beach that the water cannot reach it, but that the beach is still most definitely in sight and is only a very short walk away to their boats. The Humans, unlike the other races, take their boats and tie them up upon the shores, using heavy boulders taken from the digging to anchor the ships into place.

Humans, having been in their fierce desperate need to live, do still take notice of what appear to be large bursts of water emerging from the ocean every now and again. As of yet, they cannot make out what is causing these powerful sprays of water.

The spriggans decide to leave the snake pit alone for now.
They then...
-Start farming the orange plant, calling it "Cyclomber", due to it's nature of making you blind in one eye, and it looking like a cucumber.
-Further experiment with local plants/fruits in the Alchemy Lab.
-Construct basic arrows from sticks and use leaves as fletching in the Weapon Manufactory.
-Begin training the marksmanship of some of the Spriggans.
-Construct stone hatchets in the Weapon Manufactory, and chop wood with them.
-find tameable local wildlife.

Now,elves try to cut more wood, so they can make some wooden armor.
Then, they tame the horses and start riding them.
After that,they choose a leader,called Leonidas.
The elves then start digging deeper, so they can find coal, iron, and gold.
The elves then make little boats, and scouts so they can find other people.
Then,the elves are making a counting. They're ~2000 .
That was, because they start making factions:
Rangers(500)- fast elves that are mostly better at ranged fighting.
Paladins(250) - these are warriors-priests,they are trained in fighting and religion.
and last - The Scouts(250) - fast and packed with skills, they're fast and get out of any situation alive.
The other 1000 are farmers,or miners,or yea, different jobs.
These factions live together, and do anything together, but only they've different powers.
Paladins go together and build a weaponary, and armory,so they can work create weapons
The scouts come to these to buildings to make the weapons and armor.
The rangers build an archery.
And the normal people make their houses, and bars, restaurants, temples.

Dig a long hallway and dig several rooms along each side. These will be used as workshop areas where production will take place.
Set the now on-land ships as the sleep areas and stockpiles till those rooms are ready to be moved into.
Cut down the masts of the ships and use that wood to begin the construction of several basic workshops such as carpentry, fishery, butchers, stone working, tanning, and leather working. These will be placed in the underground rooms being dug out.
Several scouts will be sent inland to see if a better supply of wood can be found since cannibalizing the ships won't last forever.
Keep patrols of armed guards stationed around the underground entrance way, the ships, and the water front.
There is probably no more terrible instance of enlightenment than the one in which you discover your father is a man — with human flesh.

The Avians get around to creating spears using wood and stone, and set up platforms around treetops, posting guards around them upon completion.  They also start setting up a forum area in the clearing, and create further huts on the ground and in the trees, also setting up guards at the mine entrance, with orders that nobody should enter the mines without permission and an escort.

The Avians also begin to create fishing spears, and send a team down to the beach to catch fish, while another team is sent off to search around the jungle/forest within a limited area for possibly edible items, and attempt to find springs of water.

The Trolls
1: Hunt the giant deer
2: Take the local edible plants and begin growing them (I'll name them in a bit)
3: continue to work on tools and housing and other such things.

Spriggans-
The Spriggans continue what they seem to be best at; messing with the natural order of nature. They begin farming some of these new Cyclomber plants and soon find that they are quite easy to grow in the local area. Further experimentation shows that if the Cyclomber is heated before it is eaten, then it gives only positive effects, however if the Cyclomber has been soaked in water for a while, it causes blindness for the usual amount of time without the benefits.

The Spriggans go about constructing basic tools and continue to manufacture arrows. They also avoid the snakepit, which upon further looks would appear to be growing slightly, outward and away from a very large and central anaconda stretching nearly twelve feet long. The Spriggans capture a very small rabbit like creature which a propensity to climb trees much like a squirrel would, they are very quick and nimble, and are also quite peaceable creatures. They are easy enough to domesticate, though they avoid eating Cyclombers for some reason.
------------------------
Elves-
The Elves are quick to begin deforestation, something that seems to be almost against their usual nature. Though, in this new land, it is only necessary. They chop down many trees, converting these into such things as tools and wooden armor. The wooden armor seems efficient enough against very light blows, but it appears as though pretty much any real weapon could go right through it. The Elves through their digging discover a vast deposit of coal which blackens their uniforms and enables them to begin cooking and using the coal for other purposes as well.

The Elves elect a main leader and then separate themselves into factions, each focusing on different activities. While this division at first seems to be a reasonable idea, so many people are sent toward the training of war and warfare that it becomes far more difficult to gather food and construct buildings. Such a problem will need to be resolved lest their be a food crises. Stocks are already running low enough for the Elves, though it is hoped that the rapid domestication of horses will assist in that aspect. The Horses are easy to find, they seem to almost be running away from something usually.
[For the sake of it, i'll let you have your 2000 elves, but please fix your counting 500+500+500+1000=2500, not 2000]

--------------------
Humans-
The Humans are quite efficient in their construction of a new colony. Instead of cannibalizing their ships, they use them as storage and shelter until real shelters and storage can be established. This means that the harsh weather effects humans much less than it could. Underground rooms are dug out fairly rapidly, and soon a long line of dirt and broken stone lines the beach, stopping the waves short in an accidental way.

Several men are dispatched deeper inland in search of wood, they soon find a grove of trees, most of them bare and dead-looking, but obviously still alive. They are easily gathered should they be wanted, and their wood, despite the look appears to be healthy enough.

The Guards take notice of a strange event along the water front. There is the sweet song of a whale far out at sea which suddenly seems to cut short, another of the large sprays of water blasting out. Moments later, gore and viscera float to the surface, the majority of the whale seems to have been taken away, but bits and pieces are there to help piece together what happened. The Spray seems to retreat away from the coast.

-----------------------
Avians-
The Avians continue their attempts at building a high city atop the trees and mountain. Their attempts are mostly successful, with a couple of mishaps here and there which thankfully result in no casualties or serious injuries. Guards are posted about the platforms, and they keep watch, making sure that no interloper steps upon their land without their knowledge. The bodies of the pair of Avians are found later on by another mining expedition, they appear to have been mostly consumed, though no sign of the being which caused this is seen except a slight trail of blood leading deeper into the caverns.

The Avian fishing operation works spectacularly, especially with their wings allowing them to stay out of sight of fish until the last moments. A large cluster of black berries are found which appear to be edible enough, but they have yet to have been tried. Instead of a spring of water, the Avian scouts find a small river leading across the expanse of the island, how this was previously unknown is not sure, but it most definitely leads out to sea.
--------------------
Trolls-
The Trolls in their brutish and tough society continue to hunt giant deer. The beings are quite powerful however, and there are a few deaths and maimings in the huntings of these creatures. All in all however, it is quite successful for the Trolls to kill deer.

The Trolls do not hold the sort of natural plant growing prowess as other races such as the Elves and Spriggans, however they set about creating a few rows of the strange pear like trees. These begin to grow slowly as they are a fruit, and will probably take a long while to contribute enough to the diet of the Trolls to be useful. The Trolls continue creating tools and shelters with rapid speed, and soon it is easy to see the bustling colony from a distance.

One particular Troll hunting group comes back covered in wounds, and a few members missing from it. They report of a giant bear which caught them unawares, and slaughtered and injured them. Apparently it is a beast of considerable height and power, though perhaps the Trolls are simply exaggerating.
-------------------
Catarra-
The Catarra do very little for their first part of their time here as a colony. Their tent village uses up all available cloth, and it is found that there is much sharing of tents. The noises continue to haunt the small village, and their is a gradual realization that supplies will soon run out lest the village finds some form of food.

[Yay, people are playing!]

(Can the snakes get out of the pit? Also, squabbit-powered machinery!)
Spriggans...

-Attempt to find flintstones for making fires.

-Construct shovels at the Weapon Manufactory.

-Make mild blinding poison from soaked Cyclombers at the Alchemy Station.
         >If a failure, try to make potions that enhance sight.

-Experiment with more local plants at the Alchemy Station.

-See if the Squabbit eats mulched, cooked Cyclomber.
         >If successful, construct wooden cages and trap more of them.

-Send scouts to find nearby points of interest.

-Put firewood and tinder all around the snake pit for future termination.

(EDIT: Added a task)
