Ok, I have now finished starbound new campaign. Took about two or three hours total. The first four story dungeons were decent, one of them was actually pretty cool. If you've played starbound before the 1.0 update, then you've seen the floran dungeon. Nothing new there, but still well put together. Then you go to the hylotl dungeon, which is also very well put together. The avian dungeon, which is fairly interesting, and then the apex dungeon. The glitch, have no dungeon. The glitch artifact is obtained through a poorly put together wave based slog ending after defeating a boss they removed and then brought back because they couldn't think of anything better. Obtaining the last artifact is the laziest "we've had it the whole time!" bullshit. This story was great for showcasing some good dungeon builds, but as for the story it was paper thin and seemed very rushed at the end. There weren't any mid act turns, no surprising twists, and none of the characters had much in the way of characterization. Especially the glitch hero. They actually put two codices near the start of the glitch mission to explain who he was and what he was like because they couldn't be bothered to layer the thin sheen of character on him like they had with all the other characters. Those codices also came with the items that you would normally find over the course of the dungeon. Clothing items. Like the erchius mine had a space suit while the floran dungeon had a savage hunter outfit. To unlock the next big dungeon you had to go around looking for racial objects to scan with your matter manipulator. You do this by hitting the N key and then clicking on the item. Basically, they decided to utilize the flavor text to unlock dungeons. The dungeons are fun. The bits in between are not. I'd be lying though if I said I didn't enjoy it though. I just wish there was more to it than that... It just wasn't as engaging as I thought it should be.

Chucklefish really needs to stop listening to the whiners and entitled fucks demanding story. I'm sure they could have done a much better job of it if they had not let the idiotic mass rush them along. But that's also a problem isn't it? they've been developing this thing for five years, working on game play and being ass backwards. They've got good pixels, but their development style leaves something to be desired. I hope they don't fuck up stardew valleys multiplayer, cuz you know... they are working on that so stardews developer can work on real content.
