Works fine, the same mod also adds a shield slot. You can also hold the shields like a tool and use them like that, and the mod also has shield/sword combo item that puts a shield in your left hand and the sword in the right. I can't remember the names of any of the mods, guess I'll have to dig around in my folders to find them again.

Aren't shields an inbuilt feature of Minecraft now?

I, saw some recent gameplay and it looks like a lot of shit has changed and the game has got quite interesting.

Yes, but Doom doesn't. Though if Salt does mistake that mod I linked for a Minecraft mod because I derped and plugged it right after mentioning Minecraft, I will be laughing my ass off. :V
