Well, I am officially stumped. Chert is a sedimentary rock, and given a max edge in-between all the stone templates and obsidian. Diorite, gabbro, and granite are all igneous intrusive stones with no obvious interesting properties. Marble, quartzite, and slate are all metamorphic, and marble is the classic example of a stone that is non-economic in vanilla despite having use as flux.

Of those stones chert, gabbro, and quartzite are magma-safe. All of them are layer stones, not minerals.

So I have no idea what properties might've made these specific stones available for building despite currently being just as usable in stone tools. :V

EDIT: Wait, didn't you say the list of enabled stones was different? Someone said that it might be determined at embark.

This is the current thought quote from my kobold.

EDIT: Wait, didn't you say the list of enabled stones was different? Someone said that it might be determined at embark.
When I grabbed the save, the only stones that weren't marked as economic were the ones you listed:
chert, diorite, gabbro, granite, marble, quartzite, and slate. :V

Wow. How the flying fuck...I leave overnight and someone almost pulls a Wrex. You need to isolate every kobold that is still caught up in the loyalty cascade, that shit is contagious as all hell. D:
And it seems I need to remove the lockpicker token from kobolds.
Just don't forget to tell us. And far as I know, the only thing they have going for them is the buff I gave to stone, but make it slightly better than bone. Which still pales in comparison to metal. o.O
The cascade has ended. Honstly, I've never experienced one myself before. Once I saw the kobolds were just walking through locked doors (they unlock them as they move through them) I realized I couldn't contain it so I just watched it and hoped it would peter out on it's own.
Don't remove the lockpicker token. It adds a whole new level of gameplay to kobold kamp.
And, yes you will know. I'm about... 2/3rds done with the project.

Oh, also no migrants. The merchants are still standing around outside.

Butbutbut I wanna know how you did it. D:

Pbbt. It seems they'll obey locked doors under normal conditions, so this only seems to affect loyalty cascades.

Yeah, I'm seeing that now. Doors I hadn't unlocked after the end of the cascade are blocking kobolds normally. Perhaps only traitors could go through the locked doors?

In our military's current state, I'm not sure I can turn them back. The most I can hope for is to pin cushion them as they approach the door and then lock down the hatches/doors when they get close. Hopefully, theirs nothing they can climb up and over to get inside. I haven't actually made an entrance into the stone army garden, which means the only entrance SHOULD be the wooden hatch leading into the fortress proper. I don't see any building destroyers yet. Mostly goblins and beakdogs.

Dragon what the fuck did you do? Fuck the quality of the weapons, these kobolds fight like fucking demons. I lock the hatch too late and a goblin gets in, I send in the few stabbers we got to take him down. Before anyone can get there though, it kills the guard dogs. Sad. One kobold an a fresh recruit get there and proceed to clean house. The older more experienced kobold is none other than Six. His first blow on the goblin was blocked, but the blow was such that it knocked the shield from his hands and sent him sprawling on the floor.

As soon as it began, the siege breaks upon the castle of the kobolds like a bottle hurled against a brick wall.

I didn't do anything to buff the bolds themselves. D:

It seems to be more that the enemy has serious trouble hitting trained kobolds, but conversely their stone weapons manage to inflict indirect damage despite bouncing off the metal armor.

You may be right. I've read through the logs a bit and it seems that even untrained kobolds are very agile, they make a lot of dodge checks. Even non military kobolds are a bit tricky to hit. Perhaps it's their size that aids them? They almost never block, it's mostly dodging.

As for the damage, I also noticed that blows landed by kobolds which hit armor would always be deflected, but the force behind the attack would also do at least minor damage to the part beneath. In some cases, it's not rare for a kobold to break bones with minor glancing blows. The previously mentioned novice spearbold who accompanied Six in killed that goblin was the one who disarmed the goblin. He hit the goblins copper gauntlet with his bauxite spear, the blow was deflected but it still tore muscles and ligaments, forcing the goblin to drop his silver longsword.

Definitely odd. Meanwhile...working on reworking the stone system. Only problem is restricting gem weapons to sharpenable ones requires a reaction class, which glass is unable to cite. Then again, the player is unless to get their hands on glass "gems" anyway.

Midwinter, Saltmummy is sits upon the blood stained battlements of the kastle hiding the kobold warren beneath. She looks out over the trees and thinks about the year that has gone by. It all seemed to start so well. The zoo was ambitious. To her anyway. So much effort in keeping everyone from finding out what she was planning. For what? The attempted coup had made sure that most of the kobolds who were curious about what she was cooking up would never see it's completion. What had even sparked that day of violence? Some said a popular horse was killed. Others said it had started as a petty brawl. Still, others thought it had been one of the bards, inciting a riot among the warren guards. Whatever the case, Stlayber had gone from a burgeoning colony of 140 or so happy kobolds to a blood soaked tomb of only 64. Saltmummy blinked the coming tears away, and something in the distance caught her eye. What was that approaching the kastle?

Saltmummy shot to her feet and called for what little guards were left. The remaining bowbolds filled the battlements around her and readied their arrows even as a trio of brave bolds with spears took the field to meet the ettin in ambush. As it broke through the tree line, the bowbold nearest her let loose a single arrow, and the spearbolds sprang their trap.
Spoiler (hover to show)
It was over quickly. Reduced in number as they were, the fighting bolds of Stlayber were a force to be reckoned with. Even one on one, they were confident that they could lay low any foe.

Holy shit. Three kobolds, taking on an ettin? I'm used to clearing out vanilla kobold camps as a peasant-start adventurer with a bronze pick.
Area Record 1782:
Date: 08/29/██

Event: An elderly human feeding itself to a group of kakapo. Did not express pain, appeared ambivalent.

Chaosvolt and Apathetic walked together towards Saltmummy's room. In a few days, the spring casting was to occur. More importantly, in chaosvolts mind anyway, they wanted to see this "zoo" that Saltmummy had raved on and on about. They had all seen the large cage shaped objects covered in large sheets of fabric being hauled down to the large chamber saltmummy had designated for digging out, and it had been killing them to know what was under those cloths and how Saltmummy and her collaborators had managed to catch so many. Chaosvolt had kept close count of those covered objects. There were 390 of them. 390 of what were obviously cages of various shapes and sizes. Saltmummy hadn't let on a single detail except that each one contained a different animal. No two were the same. Chaosvolt assumed, logically, that she was lying. Lying, or perhaps just being daft.

They knocked on Saltmummy's door, and when no answer came they entered. Inside they found about what they expected. Saltmummy lying face up on the floor, sulking. "What you want?" She said, not looking at them. "We came to discuss the spring casting." Saltmummy didn't speak, just stared up at the ceiling. "We also want to know if the zoo is finished yet." Saltmummy blinked at that. "oh? oh. Yah. Zoo finished. It finished back in middle of winter." She stood up. "I guess I show you. No one else gonna see it if I don't show it." Apathetic asked "If it was done back in mid-winter, then why didn't you tell anyone?" Saltmummy only shrugged and said "I don't know."

Progress to the zoo chamber was slow. Chaosvolt and Apathetic were eager to be off, but Saltmummy simply trudged along. Even Apathetic understood what must have been going through her head, but damn, did they have to move this slow? Except for the usual sounds of kobold noise in the warren, everything was relatively quiet. Saltmummy usually babbled at length about nothing in particular to whoever would hear, but now she was awfully quiet. "How many left now?" She suddenly asked, "to bury I mean?" Apathetic cocked her head, counting from memory. "two or three I think." In truth, Apathetic didn't mind having her monument to herself converted into a yard where bodies were kept. Who else could protect the deceased better than the boldest of the bold?
