Its kinda like Darkest Dungeon where people think "hard=good".

I wish I could play the original Cata, I miss the simplicity that the game used to have. It was great fun just seeing how long you could outlive your friends.

With DDA there's far too many things now, it's like Minecraft with the amount of 'feature bloat'.

Maaaaaan, I really shouldn't have deleted my old relic of Cata. I found it on my grandma's computer, it was from way back in Whales Dev days, when it was Cataclysm and what became Dark Days Ahead was just The Darkling Wolf Mod. I wonder if Whales still has a copy of the origional Cataclysm floating around, might be neat to see if he does.

Hell is there anyone who used to be on Whales Dev still here? I still remember that place fondly, man it was great. It really sucks that the site is gone, completely and utterly gone. I mean there is wayback, but wayback can only do so much. Like the picture that went along with the Butter Toasted Genitals injoke, which.. I think GTAGuy made actually. (And things that should be lost, but burned into my mind, like someone's lovely fanart of the misshapen fetus. :s) There was also some really neat ideas that Whales had but never accomplished like "biome" like areas. Like towns overtaken by fungus, or are just rubble and ruins. It's been.. what.. 3 or 4 years since when I had first joined Whales Dev? Maan... I had to have been 14 at least. So much has changed since then.

A game being hard does not make it good, there are hard games that are utter shite for anything more than a challenging experience.

Cata does have a workaround with this using mods that remove certain things but they're rarely up to date with Experimental builds, or they're entirely broken sometimes. They also don't allow you to experience a lot of the game because many things are concordant to each other, disabling one part of the game you don't like may lock out an entire feature.

It's definitely still a good game but I think at the minute the main focus is too much on rebalancing early game stuff to make it harder. Bearing in mind this isn't entirely the Dev's fault with it being an open source project, they're only merging the stuff that people are working on and asking for.

Like Dark Souls. It pisses me off that it has a reputation as a hard game. It is a challenge, not hard. Dark Souls has rules that it follows, and, with a bit of skill and decent knowledge of the game, it becomes almost easy. It deserves a reputation for its amazing lore, its overwhelming sense of place, its tone, not just as "That Hard Game". And Cata just pisses me off. Its gotten to the point where I am half surprised it doesn't make me take a calculus test to earn the right to start the game. They are making the game so arcane and complex for new players that their fan base can only decrease in size. If I had started playing with how it is now, I would have quit in five minutes.

Actually, I'd say Dark Souls is a game that is hard and benefits from being hard because it has all that other stuff to back it up, it's not just difficult for the sake of it.

Cata is still a good game, a little difficult to get into but honestly most roguelikes are, part of the issue is there isn't really a good way to learn what you're doing without bashing your head against a wall of deaths that you don't understand until you get one character that has a lucky break and becomes OP, at which point you have time to learn the mechanics and tricks that would've made starting out much easier, but by that point they don't benefit your current character. Most roguelikes are like that though, it's part of the genre, dying is fun even if you're not quite sure why you died, start over and try again, maybe using some new stuff you learnt. Which is why rogue-lites have become so popular, because dying still has a benefit there, you don't start over with nothing but new information, you gain something from your previous character.

Dark Souls is a Challenge, it isn't hard. It has systems, and their is NOTHING that is purely chance. No missing an attack because of dice rolls, you miss an attack because the other asshole got out of the way, or you forgot he could parry.

According to 'doctors' and 'medical professionals' sleep is required for basic human function, or else you'll start to experience stuff like 'severe drowsiness' or 'hallucinations' or 'death'. Personally I think it's all hogwash, I haven't slept in two weeks and I'm doing just fine. I have been coughing up blood lately but that's fine, right? Kinda like sweat and urine, just the body cleansing itself. I just wish it didn't cleanse itself all over my keyboard. Any recommendations for getting blood out from between keyboard keys?
