I played DOOM. Not for long, true, but I got the feel. I'm not going to make a judgement call based on the multiplayer, because as undoomlike as it is, I still wanted to keep playing. Lets be clear though, it feels nothing like DOOM. It feels like Halo. I appreciate the return of health pickups and armor shards. The super shotgun feels alright. The rocket launcher is a mess as you can detonate your missiles the moment they leave the launcher, which is both frustrating and hilarious. It did not instantly overheat my PC. The movement of all three classes was slooooow. Too slow even by halo standards, I couldn't figure out how to go fast. Just wish movement was faster. Oh, and you can't rocket jump, which is a bit of a bummer.
I had to quit due to low FPS, around 15 or so. It was still smooth, but for shooters that is not optimal. A solid 30 or better is what is needed. It's the first game I've had computer related FPS issues with, which means this new DOOM spells the end of my computers life cycle, and the start of it's new life as a potato. I will always love this potato, and someday I will take it to wherever laptops go to die. (usually in a stack with the other old laptops.) For now though, I will wait with baited breath to see if DOOM comes out as a decent representation of that beloved franchise, or if Bethesda is going to shit on the legacy of yet another legendary title.
